This webinar recording features recent initiatives supported by the World Bank to reform warehouse receipt systems in Africa. Our invited speaker, Mr. Jean Saint-Geours, economist at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) provides a detailed overview of key reform initiatives and how they help facilitate agricultural finance, reduce post-harvest losses, improve the stability of market prices, ensure food security, and stimulate agribusiness development.

Mr. Saint-Geours, discusses the following:

  • The role of the World Bank and other public and private sector actors in creating an effective warehouse receipt system. 
  • The opportunities for financial institutions to use warehouse receipts to increase lending to the agricultural sector.
  • Lessons learned from the implementation of World Bank projects in four African countries.
 About the Speaker

Jean Saint-Geours, Economist, Trade and Competitiveness, International Finance Corporation (IFC)

Jean Saint-Geours has been working for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) since 2012, first in Washington DC, and now as an Economist in the Istanbul Office. He is the co-global lead for the World Bank Group's Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice's work on warehouse receipts financing reform. Prior to joining the IFC, he worked for an international retail firm and for a management consultancy. He holds a Master's degree in Management from ESCP Europe and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
